python setup.py install with custom build directory

A custom build directory (e.g. --build-base=/tmp/foo) can only be specified for the build command, not the install command. However, build and install can be easily combined in one call:

python setup.py build -b /tmp/foo install

  1. It’s been three and a half years since you posted this, and it seems like you’re still right. It really seems like the developers of setuptools were not thinking things through when they didn’t allow the -b option to be used with the install command. What gives?
